I would like to believe that mostly everyone is todays day and age has heard at least part of Beethoven's Symphony No. 5. You have most likely heard it and just didn't realize that it was the same composition. So when you here the very beginning of the piece the opening theme, short-short-short-long, probably sounds very familiar to you. You may be thinking to yourself that it is weird that this sound is familiar to you because you only listen to country music, or you've never listened to any of Beethoven's music before in your life. If that is the case then why is this composition so familiar sounding to you? The reason being is because this composition, and particularly the opening theme, have become so famous an well known that it has been used in tons of media today. Even though Symphony No. 5 was written some hundreds of years ago, it is still being used in modern times. This composition can be heard in Movies, TV shows, commercials, and even other advertisements. So why is it that this composition is so widely used in a vast variety of different media? This was something that interested me on what draws people to this composition and what makes directors use this piece over any modern day music.
